Our Purpose

Young women…who do leatherwork?

Why Not!

Let’s face it, we know that leatherwork is traditionally seen as a “masculine” craft.

But let’s change that!

At Hope & Jane, we spread positivity, empowerment, and just general good vibes. We create products for our customers who are as beautiful and strong as they are. We also build confidence and empower learning through our workshops.

We are two women who make good products for good people!

Meet The Team

Kirby

The ‘Jane’ of ‘Hope & Jane’ is Kirby Jane.

Kirby is a self-taught leatherworker with over four years of experience.

“What started out as a mindfulness exercise after a busy shift taking 000 calls, quickly turned into a love of working with my hands and creating beautiful, functional items. I am no longer taking 000 calls, but I still practise mindfulness with every product I make.”

"My main goal is to put a smile on someone's face when they first touch and smell a custom order that will last them for years to come."

Steph

The ‘Hope’ of ‘Hope & Jane’ is Steph (Stephanie Hope to be exact!)

Steph is a lover of the arts, design, and people, with experience as a theatre maker, counsellor and now an apprentice leatherworker. Steph was introduced to leatherwork through Kirby, after they met in 2021. Almost three years later, the two are engaged with two hungry cats, creating all kinds of things in their home studio.

“What drew me to leatherwork was the craft itself. As a writer, you have to hone your craft over time, challenge yourself, and put yourself out there. Leatherwork is just the same. And it’s really amazing to get to do that with my partner.”
